Design Options

  • One topic format puts tabs across the top.
  • Course homepage with no need to scroll
  • Another format is the grid format.
  • Activities block is a great way for students to access the tools and assignments.
  • Getting kids into the course - gave supervisors ability to self-enroll.  Auto generates an email from the teacher and they email back.
  • Calendars in the courses to keep them organized.
  • People Widget - shows you when they log in and how long they have been on a tool or a page.
  • Columns - 3 columns max.  Mimick F pattern.  Use Docking so that students can choose to block or unblock.  Left hand side is the blocks and admin.
  • Basic course structure looks the same.  So that you can make a quick start guide for the students.  Audience is parents and students.
  • One non-editing teacher that we can see in every course so that you can look at any of the courses as a student.
  • Replace taps with Topic 1 - Digital Tools,  Put topic number with description.
  • Links at the bottom to help navigate to other pages.
  • Create an assignment that says we are here this week in red that you can move down each week.
  • Icons in book can be placed on the assignments.
  •  Feedback Friday using survey's in Moodle.
  • Complete the assignments then take the survey using conditional activities.

Great for being able to see how much work the student has completed. Click on the student, Admin Tab, Reports, Logs

Grade Book

  • Admin- grades - categories and items
  • Think about summative and formative assignments.
  • Grade book pulls in assignments so you have to figure out the weighting.
  • Default is usually defaulted at the simple mean.  Based on Weighting.  No control if you want to weight something zero.  So it is recommended that you go to weighted mean of grades.
  • You need categories - add category at the bottom. (Ex. Quizzes and Tests)  Categories are like big folders.  Weighting to the upper level
  • You can also weight differently inside the folder .
  • Click on "Aggregate" only non-empty grades (only an assessment on what they have been completed).
  • Grade type - Value  (Make sure that it doesn't say none)
  • Select category - put items in the folder,
  • Course work -> quizzes and exams ->
  • Final exam ->

Lesson tracks the time that the students spend on the assignment.
Great for incorporating a pre-test so students don't have to do everything if they already know.

i Frame

Capture something on a website (still navigable with radio buttons etc...) then place in Moodle.  Caution. Once they answer questions it takes them out of Moodle.
